10:30 – 12:00 Oral Medication Updates and Using ADA and AACE Algorithm

  • Medications for type 2 – New Meds, Warnings and Breakthroughs
  • Using 2017 ADA oral and insulin algorithms
  • Improving glucose through medication adjustment

12:00 – 1:15    Lunch

1:15 – 3:15 pm   Insulin Pattern Management – Case Study Approach

  • What to do when current insulin strategy isn’t working
  • Management and Educational strategies that work
  • Hyperglycemia in the hospital

3:15 – 3:30      Break

3:30 – 4:30 Getting to the gut – Meet Your Microbiome and Healthy Eating – 1 hr

  • Enjoy the wonderment of the microbiome
  • Explore how to improve gut health
  • Translate this information to improve the health of those living with diabetes

4:30 – 4:45 Q & A  and eval – 15 minutes

Objectives:

  • Describe the impact of diabetes on our communities
  • Discuss the pathophysiology of the different types of diabetes
  • Demonstrate compassionate and successful diabetes teaching strategies
  • List the updates to the diabetes management guidelines as outlined by the American Diabetes Association
  • Describe how to use the different classes of diabetes medications individually or in combination to achieve optimal glucose control.
  • Discuss how to make adjustments to insulin therapy to gain improved glucose control
  • Review glucose patterns and determine how to adjust therapy to improve glucose it the outpatient and inpatient health
  • Describe the role of gut bacteria in health and diabetes
  • List strategies to help patients nourish their body to maintain optimal health

Beverly Thomassian, RN, MPH, CDE, BC-ADM

As president of Diabetes Education Services, Beverly Thomassian, RN, MPH, CDE®, BC-ADM, believes that we can improve diabetes care through education, advocacy and curiosity.  As a diabetes coach, she promotes excellence in care through her live courses and webinar presentations. Beverly is a Diabetes Nurse Specialist and is Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management. She is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, (UCSF) and a visiting professor at California State University, Chico (CSU Chico).
