Target Audience
This continuing education activity should be of interest to nurses, registered dietitians, diabetes educators, certified health education specialists, health educators, PAs, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals who care for individuals with diabetes and other related conditions.

12:30 – 2:00 pm Diabetes Care During a Pandemic – Lessons Learned and Implications for the Future
- Discuss the current state of diabetes in the United States
- Describe the relationship between COVID, health care disparities, and diabetes outcomes
- Explore the impact of COVID infection on those with pre-existing diabetes
- Discuss the efficacy of virtual visits and future approaches to diabetes care
- List 3 actions health care professionals can take to improve equitable diabetes care
2:00 – 2:30 pm Diabetes Medication Updates and Critical Content
- Describe 3 updates on currently available diabetes medications
- List key teaching points for each class of medications
2:30 – 2:45 pm Break
2:45 – 3:45 pm Diabetes Medication Management – A Case Study Approach
- Based on the case study provided, determine the best diabetes medication approach
- Discuss the application of ADA Diabetes Meds Management guidelines in clinical practice
3:45 – 4:45 pm Surviving the Holidays with Diabetes
- Discuss the impact of festive foods and alcohol on blood glucose levels
- Describe the 2 new hypoglycemic rescue medications
- List 3 strategies to boost mental health for people with diabetes and health care professionals
CEs
Successful completion of the program requires attendance for at least 90 percent of the program and a completed online evaluation by the participant within 10 calendar days of the program date. A certificate of completion will not be made available for you if the evaluation is not completed within this timeframe. No partial credit available.
Refund and Cancellation Policy: Upstate AHEC reserves the right to cancel a continuing education program if
enrollment is not sufficient to warrant offering the program. If a class must be cancelled for any reason, a full
refund will be granted. In the event that Upstate AHEC should find it necessary to cancel or postpone a program
for any reason including, but not limited to, registration responses, strikes, or acts of God, a full refund will be
granted. Upstate AHEC will not be liable for registrants’ expenses.
Registrants canceling between 2 weeks and 48 hours prior to the program will receive a 75 percent
refund. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to the program. No
refunds or credits will be given for no-shows. Participant substitutions are welcome (please notify us in advance of the program). Cancellations must be made in writing (mail or email – [email protected]).
