I’m getting to the age when people occasionally ask me, “So, how much longer are you going to work?”
Ouch.
I pat down my ruffled feathers, smile, and remind them that some of the world’s most influential leaders have stepped into their greatest roles later in life.
And at 63, I feel like I’m just getting warmed up.
I am the best version of myself—clear-headed, comfortable in my own skin, and genuinely excited about the future. Sure, I have a few health challenges (like so many of us), but I refuse to let them dampen my joie de vivre or my enthusiasm for the work I love.

After more than 30 years in diabetes education, I remain fiercely passionate about helping healthcare professionals grow their knowledge, achieve certification, and reaffirm the joy and purpose in the work they do.
Leading my company sometimes feels like running Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for diabetes education. Me and Bryanna get to dream up the next great idea, sprinkle in some creativity, mix it with evidence-based science—and then make it happen.
Recently, I heard a longevity expert, Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, say that two secrets to a longer life are to keep working and eat ice cream.
Now that is a wellness plan I can get behind.
So, retirement? Not yet.
Over the next decade, I want to do more of what brings me the greatest joy: traveling, teaching, and connecting with healthcare professionals—live and in person.
