Author, Nurse, Educator and Clinician, Beverly Dyck Thomassian has specialized in diabetes management for the past twenty years. Her work experience includes establishing outpatient ADA Recognized Diabetes Education programs to implementing innovative inpatient diabetes care programs. She is Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management and is a nationally recognized speaker and advocate, dedicated to improving diabetes care. She is a working educator, currently serving as a Diabetes Program Manager and is an Associate Clinical Professor in the graduate-nursing program at UCSF. As president and founder of Diabetes Educational Services, Beverly is dedicated to optimizing diabetes care and improving the lives of those with diabetes.
Dana Armstrong, RD, CDE®
Dana has been in private practice for over 24 years and recently opened the doors to her own clinic, Diabetes and Nutrition Support Services in Salinas, CA. Dana has developed educational programs that have benefited more than 6000 patients with diabetes, and specializes in the use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose sensing technology, as well as a patient centered approach to diabetes treatment. She speaks nationally on diabetes care and management to both health care professionals and people with diabetes. Dana is an author, and has written two books and investigator initiated studies in diabetes as well. Having a child with diabetes, she combines her professional knowledge with personal experience and understanding.
Heather Nielsen, MA, LPC, CHWC
We are thrilled to introduce our newest Diabetes Educator Course speaker, Heather Nielsen. Heather will be joining us in San Diego this September and will be presenting on assessment, healthy coping and promoting behavioral change. Since 2001, Heather has worked in both medical and behavioral health fields. She is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Health and Wellness Coach at Heather Nielsen Counseling and Coaching, DBA Transforming Health. Her personal mission is to help people with diabetes find balance, peace and well-being.“We all need help in managing chronic illness, and I specialize in helping people live well, despite diabetes. With practice and presence, we can learn to transform our brains and our minds, thus finding healthier ways to relate to our disease and to life. I offer a very individualized approach for each client.”

Community Educator, Motivational Speaker, Public Health Nurse, and Author, Diane M. Pearson has been a Diabetes Educator for the past 24 years in the hospital, outpatient, school and community setting. Her experience includes developing creative diabetes care and education programs for local and national health care environments including home health agencies, out-patient and community clinics and diabetes prevention programs for youth within the San Diego School System. Diane has been published in the RN, NurseWeek, Diabetes Interview, and enjoys contributing to several San Diego wellness and health columns. Diane carries the passion and message of hope for those with diabetes through self-actualized care, and believes in using humor, story telling and creative problem-solving, making health solutions relevant and realistic to her audiences.
As a leader in the field of diabetes management, Lonnie has been championing best care practices at Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto for over 20 years. As a certified diabetes educator, trainer, mentor and advocate, her passion and commitment to improving diabetes care is valued by patients and professionals alike.
